The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what assessment she has made of the risk of personal data breaches associated with the increased use of age-assurance services.

Government, Ofcom and the Information Commissioner’s Office have been clear that age assurance methods should be safe, proportionate and secure and that services must minimise the use of personal data, only collecting and retaining it where necessary and proportionate for age assurance purposes. Organisations failing to comply with data protection requirements may be subject to regulatory enforcement action.
Ofcom is due to publish a report on age assurance in July 2026, including its effectiveness in relation to the processing of personal data.
