The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what steps his Department is taking to support innovation in the solar sector.

Answered by Michael Shanks

The UK has huge potential for solar power, and the Government is committed to working with industry to radically increase our existing solar capacity to meet our Net Zero goals utilising innovation funded through UK Research & Innovation and Innovate UK.

We have several pioneering companies developing the next generation of cutting-edge solar technologies, including perovskite and thin film panels.

In the Solar Roadmap, we have committed to support companies looking to scale up their production, through several actions including releasing a new online directory for solar businesses and exploring the development of standards for innovative solar panels and emerging applications.
