International Humanitarian Law

Asked by Chris LawScottish National PartyForeign, Commonwealth and Development OfficeTabled Answered 7 July 2026UIN 14365

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, a) how many full-time equivalent staff were assigned to the International Humanitarian Law Unit prior to restructuring in 2026 and b) how many full-time equivalent staff are responsible for carrying out those functions.

Answered by Chris Elmore

As I explained in the answer of 29 April to Questions 129692-95, the media stories on which these questions are based were misleading, and as I reiterated in the House on 1 July, our function in this important area remains and the unit has not closed.
