Business: Regulation

Asked by Charlie DewhirstConservativeDepartment for Business and TradeTabled Answered 7 July 2026UIN 14622

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, whether his Department has a policy for reviews of regulations that have been introduced.

Answered by Blair McDougall

My Department regularly reviews regulations that have been introduced, including through statutory Post-Implementation Reviews (PIRs) where required. Through these reviews my department assesses whether regulations have achieved their objectives, whether those objectives remain appropriate, and whether they could be achieved in a less burdensome way. Where relevant, qualifying PIRs are scrutinised by the independent Regulatory Policy Committee.
