Defence: Artificial Intelligence

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 July 2026UIN 14527

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the full scope is of Project FRONTIER.

Answered by Luke Pollard

Programme FRONTIER is Defence’s programme to put the most advanced forms of artificial intelligence to work for the UK’s Armed Forces. AI is developing at extraordinary pace, creating new opportunities for operational advantage and new risks if Defence cannot keep up. FRONTIER exists to close that gap: turning frontier AI from emerging technology into practical capability that helps Defence operate faster, protect itself better and support the warfighter more effectively.

Led through the Defence AI Centre and working with partners across Defence, Government and industry, FRONTIER is focusing first on priority warfighting challenges including cyber security, homeland defence and warfighting readiness. It is building specialist teams that work directly with users, delivering modern AI tools for use across Defence, and creating a pipeline of opportunities so that the most promising technologies are matched to the most important Defence problems.
