Asylum: Sponsorship
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what safeguards will be put in place to help ensure that organisations sponsoring refugees under the community sponsorship scheme are resourced to provide housing, integration and employment support.
Answered by Alex Norris
As announced on 27 June, the refugee study and named sponsorship routes will open to applications from prospective lead sponsors in the autumn, with arrivals expected from autumn 2027 onwards. The refugee work route is expected to open next year.
The Home Office will retain control over who can act as a lead sponsor, with organisations required to apply to the Home Office to be accredited. The criteria that lead sponsors will need to meet will be set out in due course.
The Home Office will conduct monitoring, and evaluation to ensure that the new sponsorship routes deliver positive outcomes. The Home Office will also put in place assurance to ensure that suitable accommodation and integration support is in place.
