Project Gigabit

Asked by James WildConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 1 July 2026UIN 900744

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what progress her Department has made on the rollout of Project Gigabit.

Answered by Ian Murray

This government is committed to achieving nationwide gigabit coverage by 2032, and 88% of UK premises are now able to access a gigabit connection.

Through Project Gigabit, we are rolling out lightning-fast, reliable broadband across the UK to premises not covered by existing or planned commercial coverage.

Since June 2024, Government funding has enabled over 332,000 premises to receive gigabit-capable broadband.

We have also seen the completion of the first three Project Gigabit contracts in Teesdale, North Dorset and Northumberland.
