The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many houses will no longer be (a) rebuilt and (b) refurbished as a result of his Department's decision to delay spending on defence housing to the next Parliament.

The Ministry of Defence will publish its detailed business case and comprehensive delivery timeline for the £9 billion Defence Housing Strategy over the next 12 months, in direct alignment with the National Audit Office (NAO) recommendations.
Work has already commenced on the 14,000 homes requiring substantial refurbishment, which were set out in the Strategy. We have already made significant improvements on over 1,250 military homes, with another 2,000 to be improved this financial year.
The Armed Forces Bill includes provisions to create a Defence Housing Service to support this work and that bill is proceeding through Parliament currently. We remain committed to spending £9 billion on defence house refitting or rebuilding 9 in 10 defence homes in the next decade.
