Retail Trade: Urban Areas

Asked by Jayne KirkhamLabour (Co-op)Department for Business and TradeTabled Answered 2 July 2026UIN 900778

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what steps he is taking to support high street businesses.

Answered by Blair McDougall

It was a pleasure meeting my honourable friend in April to discuss challenges facing small businesses in Truro and Falmouth.

Our Plan for Small Businesses puts high streets at the heart of economic renewal. We are reforming licensing, tackling retail crime and money laundering, and simplifying business support through the Business Growth Service.

We are also working with businesses on an MHCLG-led High Streets Strategy to revitalise communities alongside the Pride in Place programme.
