Heathrow Airport: Construction

Asked by Munira WilsonLiberal DemocratDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 10 July 2026UIN 15442

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether she has had discussions with the Secretary of State for the Home Department on who would fund replacement Immigration Removal Centres in the event of a third runway at Heathrow being approved.

Answered by Keir Mather

The Department for Transport has engaged extensively with the Home Office regarding the Immigration Removal Centres, as well as connected assets, located northwest of Heathrow Airport. The draft HENPS outlines the requirements for their relocation.

The Home Office and the Department for Transport published a joint letter on gov.uk dated 18 June 2026 inviting any potential promoter interested in delivering expansion to engage with the Home Office on its requirements for relocation, and to discuss their proposals for reprovision.
