Defence: Finance

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 July 2026UIN 15517

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the Defence Investment Plan, published on 30 June 2026, paragraph 78, what is within the scope of hard but necessary decisions.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The purpose of the Defence Investment Plan (DIP) was to identify and fund priorities in line with the recommendations made in the Strategic Defence Review. In some cases, hard decisions have needed to be made to pivot away from current or planned capabilities to more modern and transformative technologies. Those necessary decisions ensure the DIP is affordable and robust and supports the development of both current and future capabilities.
