Hammersmith Bridge: Repairs and Maintenance

Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 10 July 2026UIN 15466

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether she has made an assessment of the potential impact of the requirement that projects supported through the Structures Fund be completed by 31 March 2030 on the eligibility of Hammersmith Bridge for funding.

Answered by Simon Lightwood

Local highway authorities have a duty under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 to maintain the highways network in their area. Local highway authorities putting forward structures for consideration for investment from the Structures Fund are responsible for developing repair or replacement schemes that fully meet the Structures Fund eligibility criteria.
