Roads: Finance

Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 7 July 2026UIN 15470

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether any road schemes have had their expenditure reprofiled as part of the funding changes announced alongside the increase in defence spending.

Answered by Simon Lightwood

To support the government’s Defence Investment Plan (DIP), the Department for Transport has identified potential savings from its roads budgets. No final decisions have been made, and the Department will carefully consider the responses to the consultation on the A38 Derby Junctions and A46 Newark bypass road schemes before deciding the way forward.

No other road schemes have had changes proposed to their expenditure as a consequence of the increase in defence spending.
