Food: Production
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of the farming road map on domestic food production.
Answered by Stephen Morgan
The Roadmap recognises maintaining domestic food production at least at current levels is integral to our national security. It supports domestic food production by giving farmers long-term clarity to plan, invest and adapt.
It sets out Government’s role in backing farmers to grow, invest and compete in order to produce food. It sets out how Government will ensure markets work fairly, including through the Farming and Food Partnership Board.
It sets out how Government will provide a regulatory system that works with farmers, not against them.
It confirms Government will protect the most productive land for food, while supporting sustainable productivity growth and efficiency improvements.
