Forests: Environment Protection

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 9 July 2026UIN 15658

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' press release entitled Government steps up action to tackle illegal deforestation, published on 23 June 2026, what discussions she has had with major supermarkets on implementation of the proposed due diligence requirements.

Answered by Mary Creagh

This Government believes it is at its best when it works in partnership with business, civil society, trade unions, and communities.

Later this year, the Government will consult businesses, trade bodies and other interested parties on the proposed due diligence requirements and will carefully consider the evidence and consultation responses when developing the final legislation in Great Britain.
