Forests: Environment Protection

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 9 July 2026UIN 15660

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' press release entitled Government steps up action to tackle illegal deforestation, published on 23 June 2026, what discussions she has had with producer countries on supporting compliance with the proposed UK requirements.

Answered by Mary Creagh

We remain firmly committed to continuing to build positive and constructive relationships with all our international partners to collectively address deforestation. This includes continuing our track-record of transparent and proactive engagement with country partners. For Regulations in Great Britain, we intend to consult later this year where we welcome views from a broad network of global and local stakeholders on our proposals.
