Forests: Environment Protection
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' press release entitled Government steps up action to tackle illegal deforestation, published on 23 June 2026, what assessment she has made of the impact of the proposed regulations on UK food security and supply chain resilience.
Answered by Mary Creagh
Forests provide a range of ecosystem services which affect agricultural production. Their protection and restoration can therefore play a vital role in supporting global food supply and price stability.
The Government considers food security a matter of national security and is committed to maintaining a resilient and diverse food supply chain, we continue to work with the sector to ensure it continues to deliver high quality, safe and affordable food for UK consumers.
