Defence: Glasgow

Asked by Gordon McKeeLabourMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 13 July 2026UIN 15836

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what recent estimate he has made of the number of jobs in the Glasgow City Region supported by defence spending.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Ministry of Defence is committed to ensuring defence is an engine for growth. However, we have made no assessment of the number of jobs in the Glasgow City Region supported by defence spending.

The Defence Investment Plan, published on 30 June 2026, and the Defence Industrial Strategy, published on 8 September 2025, set out a clear vision for making defence an engine for economic growth – directing increased investment into key defence areas and regions across the UK to create high-quality jobs. We estimate that the Defence Investment Plan will result in an additional 60,000 jobs nationwide.
