Ammunition: Finance

Asked by James CartlidgeConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 16 July 2026UIN 15726

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the Answer of 1 July to Question 12213 on Ammunition: Finance, how much in each year referred to is new money allocated from the Defence Investment Plan.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Defence Investment Plan (DIP) provided a unique opportunity to reset the entire defence programme to deliver the recommendations within the Strategic Defence Review. It is not possible to make a like-for-like comparison against previous planning assumptions due to an ever-evolving global munitions environment. We are therefore unable to attribute changes against a previously established baseline.

However, our projected spend on weapons and munitions outlined in the Defence Investment plan totals £11.1 billion and is broken down by financial year (FY) as follows:

FY2026-27

FY2027-28

FY2028-29

FY2029-30

Total DIP Munitions spend

£2.22 billion

£2.62 billion

£3.15 billion

£3.11 billion
