Mount Stewart: Finance
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, if she will make an assessment of the potential merits of increasing funding to Mountstewart Gardens to help enable Mountstewart to take her place as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Answered by Ian Murray
DCMS does not provide any discretionary capital funding for local heritage projects, however the National Lottery Heritage Fund has capital funding streams available.
We are proud to already boast a large number of existing UK World Heritage Sites and are committed to supporting UNESCO’s ambition for a more globally balanced, representative World Heritage List. The UK Government does not currently have any plans to consider additional sites for nomination to UNESCO, beyond those already included on the UK’s Tentative List.
