Answered by Keir Mather
The UK is an active and influential member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where we seek to maintain the safety, security and sustainability of international maritime. The UK is an elected member of the IMO Council and is proud to host the IMO in London.
The Secretary of State for Transport and I engage with the IMO Secretary General and international counterparts from other IMO member states on a regular basis, to build alliances and to find opportunities to deliver on shared interests. The Secretary of State for Transport and I attended the IMO Assembly in November 2025, where she provided the UK’s opening remarks.
