The question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what funding has been provided for police leadership development in each financial year since 2020-21.

The Police Leadership Commission’s report will inform our wider reform programme, helping us to understand how leadership is developed and supported across policing, where barriers to progress remain and what more can be done to strengthen leadership for the future.
The review makes a significant number of far-reaching recommendations. This ambition is welcome and the case for change is clear. We will take the time needed to consider the detail of these recommendations and how they can support effective, meaningful reform. We intend to publish a full Government response in the autumn.
The College of Policing is the professional body for policing, responsible for setting standards, promoting good practice and supporting everyone working in policing to cut crime and keep the public safe. The Home Office provides funding for the College through an annual grant-in-aid settlement to support the College’s delivery costs. This is supplemented by additional direct grants for delivering specific and defined work programmes.
The Home Office is also investing £119m in 2026-27 to kickstart the delivery of the police reform programme, embarking on the most significant changes to policing in two centuries, which will help to transform standards and consistency for leaders at all levels.
