Defence Equipment: Procurement

Asked by Jim ShannonDemocratic Unionist PartyMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 15 July 2026UIN 16428

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what steps are being taken to ensure value for money in procurement of military equipment.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Department ensures value for money is achieved in procurement of military equipment by combining appropriate procurement routes with rigorous appraisal, whole-life cost analysis, strong commercial oversight and independent scrutiny.

This ensures military requirements are delivered which provide the best balance of cost and effectiveness at an affordable cost to the taxpayer.
