Clean Air Zones

Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 13 July 2026UIN 16610

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the Answer of 4 June 2026 to Question 4274 on Clean Air Zones, whether the new air quality targets in the Environmental Improvement Plan are legal limit values for the purposes of the Clean Air Zone policy.

Answered by Emma Hardy

The Environmental Improvement Plan sets out our commitment to deliver air pollution levels set out in the Air Quality Standards Regulations 2010 (AQSR) in local areas. Where Clean Air Zones have been introduced they have been to bring nitrogen dioxide levels to within legal limit values, as set out in the ASQR, in the shortest possible time.
