Frigates

Asked by Stuart AndersonConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 15 July 2026UIN 16529

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the expected rollout date is for the 13-strong fleet of submarine hunting frigates.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Type 26 programme remains focused on delivering a combined fleet of at least 13 frigates to hunt for Russian submarines in the North Atlantic, the biggest British warship deal in history and centrepiece of the Lunna House Agreement.

That includes eight Type 26 ASW frigates for the Royal Navy, and at least five for Norway. The first ships are expected to be received by the Royal Navy in the late 2020s with deliveries continuing in the 2030s.
