Office for Nuclear Regulation
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of the proposed revisions to the Office for Nuclear Regulation's charging model on nuclear operators of different sizes.
Answered by Michael Shanks
The Nuclear Regulatory Review set out a stark challenge for all of us; government, regulators and industry.
The government is meeting this challenge by taking forward all 47 recommendations, including those that relate to the charging arrangements of the ONR. Delay has a cost, so we have committed to implementing these reforms by the end of 2027.
Work is proceeding at pace to understand the best option going forward on revisions to the ONR’s charging model. This will include looking into the potential impacts, benefits, and risks. Officials are working closely with the ONR and all dutyholders to ensure a good outcome for all.
