Military Intelligence

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 17 July 2026UIN 17094

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the Defence Investment Plan, published on 30 June 2026, paragraph 22, what is the composition of the Digital Backbone.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Digital Backbone is not a single platform or network. It comprises the connectivity, digital infrastructure, data services, cloud-based capabilities and integration frameworks that enable information to be shared securely across Defence. It is a foundational capability for the Integrated Force and is relevant across all domains of warfare. As set out in the Defence Investment Plan, it provides the spine for Defence's Digital Targeting Web by enabling the connection of sensors, deciders and effectors, supporting faster decision-making and operational integration.
