Proof of Identity: Digital Technology

Asked by Rupert LoweRestore BritainCabinet OfficeTabled Answered 14 July 2026UIN 17140

The question

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, what estimate his Department has made of the cost to the public purse of introducing a digital identity system.

Answered by Mr James Frith

There is no definite cost for the digital identity system at this time because the design has not been finalised. The design will be informed by the public consultation and recommendations from the People’s Panel, both of which the Government will respond to later in the year.
