Artificial Intelligence
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what the full scope is of the UK AI Hardware Plan.
Answered by Kanishka Narayan
The AI Hardware Plan is centred on building an end-to-end AI hardware innovation pipeline, enabling companies to move from research and early-stage product development through to deployment and global scale. It achieves this through over £1.1bn of public investment across four pillars - innovation, skills, procurement and investment.
As set out in the Plan, AI hardware should be understood as the chips and semiconductor technologies that underpin AI, required to enable capability across data centre, edge and embodied AI systems. This includes all the electronic and photonic components of AI systems and the related capability across chip design, manufacturing and system integration, spanning: compute, photonic interconnects and data movement, sensing, and power and energy systems.
