Martial Arts: Finance

Asked by James CartlidgeConservativeDepartment for Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 15 July 2026UIN 17785

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what assessment she has made of the adequacy of the financial support available to athletes selected to represent Great Britain in karate at European and World Championship level competitions.

Answered by Stephanie Peacock

The Government is fully committed to our elite sport system and enabling our athletes to achieve their potential and excel on the world stage.

As Karate is not part of the Olympic and Paralympic programme it does not receive funding from UK Sport.

The British Karate Federation, supported by Karate England, together offers financial support for elite athletes.
