Veterinary Services: Prescriptions

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for Business and TradeTabled Answered 15 July 2026UIN 17843

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what estimate his Department has made of the average annual savings for pet owners arising from the proposed cap on written prescription charges.

Answered by Blair McDougall

The Department has not made a separate estimate of the average annual savings for pet owners arising from the cap on written prescription charges. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) introduced the cap as part of a wider package of remedies to improve affordability, transparency and competition in the veterinary services market. Further information on the CMA's veterinary services market investigation can be found at: Veterinary services for household pets.
