Life Sciences: Investment

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 15 July 2026UIN 17845

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, with reference to her Department's joint press release entitled UK life sciences attracts £3bn investment, creating jobs and faster patient treatments, published on 9 July 2026, what proportion of the funding represents (a) new private investment, (b) previously announced private investment, (c) public funding and (d) investment contingent on future milestones.

Answered by Kanishka Narayan

The £3bn investment figure consists exclusively of previously announced investments over the last year, from July 2025. Full details of the investments that make up that figure are included in the footnotes of the publication (Life Sciences Sector Plan: One Year On - GOV.UK).

Of the £3bn we expect over 90% to be private. This includes investment leveraged via the Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund, which is providing up to £520 million in grants to companies to improve the UK’s manufacturing capability and resilience. Investments leveraged through this fund are forwards looking and are therefore subject to change.
