Iran: USA

Asked by James CartlidgeConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 16 July 2026UIN 18067

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what recent discussions he has had with his US counterpart regarding military developments in Iran.

Answered by Louise Sandher-Jones

The US is the UK’s principal defence and security partner. The Defence Secretary regularly engages with his US counterpart, most recently at the NATO Summit on 8 July where they discussed a range of topics, including recent events in the Middle East.

The urgent restoration of Freedom of Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is essential. We remain committed to playing our part in achieving this through the Multinational Military Mission, by providing reassurance to commercial shipping and conducting mine clearance operations, when conditions allow.
