Museums and Galleries: Glasgow

Asked by Gordon McKeeLabourDepartment for Digital, Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 19207

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what financial support her Department provides to museums and galleries in Glasgow.

Answered by Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

Cultural funding is devolved. The Scottish Government received Barnett consequentials through the Spending Review. It is for the Scottish Government to determine how best to use these funds. English and Scottish institutions continue to maintain close ties by actively collaborating on loans, exhibitions and conservation partnerships. Scottish museums, including those in Glasgow, also benefit from UK-wide tax reliefs such as the VAT refund scheme for museums and galleries and Museums and Galleries Exhibitions Tax Relief (MGETR).
