Summer Internship Programme

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeCabinet OfficeTabled Answered 4 September 2026UIN 19364

The question

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, pursuant to the answer of 7 July 2026 to Question 13824 on Summer Internship Programme, whether trade union officials have been deemed to be working class for the purposes of the parental occupational assessment if their children have applied for the 2026 Civil Service summer internship scheme.

Answered by Cabinet Office

As we set out in August 2025, we opened our Fast Stream Summer Internship Programme exclusively for undergraduates from lower socio-economic backgrounds for 2026. We determine eligibility based on parental occupation at age 14 in line with guidance from the Social Mobility Commission and the Office for National Statistics definition.
