Housing: Flood Control
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what financial incentives are in place for residents to ensure flooding resilience upgrades in homes.
Answered by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
Following flood events, households may benefit from the insurance industry's Build Back Better initiative. Instead of simply restoring a property to its pre-flood condition, homeowners can access up to £10,000 to improve the flood resilience of their homes when repairing flood-damaged homes.
Targeted government support to help communities and businesses return to normal has previously also been made available in exceptional circumstances following flooding events with significant wide area impacts. The Environment Agency also routinely funds property flood resilience projects.
