Fireworks: Smuggling
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what assessment he has made of the potential for increased illegal imports or black market sales arising from restrictions on louder fireworks.
Answered by Department for Business and Trade
The illegal importation and sale of fireworks are already offences. As part of its consultation on pyrotechnics and fireworks, the Government is seeking views on potential unintended consequences of restricting access to certain fireworks and pyrotechnic products, including any impacts on illicit supply.
The Government is also considering responses to its earlier consultation on UK’s New Product Safety Framework, which included measures to tackle the sale of unsafe and illegal products online, and will announce any changes to that framework in due course.
