To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, whether his Department maintains an assessment of the extent of Chinese investment in the 17 sectors subject to mandatory notification under the National Security and Investment Act 2021.

The Government publishes information on the operation of the National Security and Investment (NSI) Act 2021 in its annual reports. This includes data on the percentage of total accepted notifications involving acquirers associated with China, and the percentage of accepted mandatory notifications involving acquirers associated with China.
Mandatory notifications relate to qualifying acquisitions of entities in one or more of the 17 sectors subject to mandatory notification. This does not necessarily include all investment in these areas of the economy - for example acquisitions of assets are not subject to mandatory notification.
