Solar Power: Housing
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment she has made of the potential (a) electrical and (b) fire safety risk from plug-in solar installations, including the (i) resilience of Residual Current Devices and (ii) use of BS 1363 plugs.
Answered by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
The Department has commissioned and published an electrical safety study which assessed potential electrical and fire safety risks of plug-in solar on UK domestic wiring. This evidence informed the Interim Product Specification which sets out a range of electrical and fire safety measures including requirements for the safe use of BS 1363 plugs, compatibility with Residual Current Devices and minimum fire performance standard for the panels.
