Council Tax: Valuation
The question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether HMRC Valuation Office has a standard letter or template for requests in relation to council tax valuations for a dwelling in relation to (a) giving notice as required of the exercise of the power of entry and (b) requesting the resident or owner provide information about the particulars of a dwelling.
Answered by Treasury
The Valuation Office provides templates for use in customer correspondence across all business areas, including to request to visit a domestic property and to request information from the owner or occupier about the particulars of a dwelling.
Power of Entry in England follows the statutory legal right from the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and all safeguards such as written notice, warrant cards, and the Code of Practice must be followed. There are no corresponding Power of Entry rights in Wales.
