The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to the No10 press release, 23 July 2026, "Burnham means business: PM slashes business rates bills for pubs, clubs and live music venues", and with reference to the MHCLG press release, "Communities to seize control over high streets and restore pride" of 24 September 2025, whether the removal of reliefs on premises that do not make a positive contribution to a local community will apply to fake barbers.

The Government will set out further details on funding of the additional 20% business rates relief for pubs, social clubs and live music venues, at the Budget. As part of that work, the Government is reviewing reliefs and incentives across the business rates system, including for businesses that do not make a positive contribution to local communities, such as vape shops.
