Business Rates: Tax Allowances
The question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to the No10 press release, 23 July 2026, "Burnham means business: PM slashes business rates bills for pubs, clubs and live music venues", whether the removal of reliefs on premises that do not make a positive contribution will apply to the removal of (a) small business rate relief, (b) transitional rate relief and (c) the retail, hospitality and leisure multiplier.
Answered by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
The Government will set out further details on funding of the additional 20% business rates relief for pubs, social clubs and live music venues, at the Budget. As part of that work, the Government is reviewing reliefs and incentives across the business rates system, including for businesses that do not make a positive contribution to local communities, such as vape shops.
