Local Government: Standards
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what is the process by which the review of statutory duties on local authorities is being undertaken; whether there has been consultation; what are the terms of reference of the review; and if she intends to publish a public list of duties.
Answered by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
We have engaged with the local government sector and other government departments to understand whether the duties placed on councils could be simplified or improved, while retaining the critical services that communities expect. This includes considering the legislation, guidance, reporting requirements, and other obligations placed on local authorities. We are reviewing responses and further updates will be provided in due course.
