Housing: Prices
The question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether an assessment has been made of the potential impact of (a) the changes to residential stamp duty and (b) the council tax surcharge on (i) house prices and the (ii) the Help to Buy equity portfolio.
Answered by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
The expected impacts on individuals, businesses and the Exchequer of tax changes are published alongside the relevant legislation in a Tax Information and Impact Note (TIIN), and the OBR also factors any impact into wider economic indicators.
The OBR has published further detail relating to HVCTS, including impact on house prices. Supplementary-forecast-information-high-value-council-tax-surcharge-costing.pdf
