Department for Education

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeDepartment for EducationTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 20669

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to the Answer of 4 August 2026 to Question 13151 on Government Communication Service: Staff, what is the total headcount of staff in the Department who are members of the Government Communication Service; and how many of those staff are embedded communicators.

Answered by Department for Education

The department has a total of 136 members of staff who are members of the Government Communication Service, not including arm's-length bodies.

Of this total, 24 members of staff are embedded communicators, working within policy or operational teams across the department rather than within the core communications directorate.

The department keeps its communications resourcing under regular review to ensure it reflects organisational priorities and delivers value for money.
