Civil Service: Productivity
The question
To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, what metrics her Department collates on the level of productivity in (a) the Cabinet Office and (b) the Civil Service.
Answered by Cabinet Office
Developing common measures of productivity in the Civil Service is challenging given the diversity of outputs across government, the extent to which many ‘services’ are delivered as a collective to the overall population rather than individuals, and the lack of market prices to support traditional economic approaches. Individual areas of government develop their own specific performance measures. Across government, how civil servants rate their own productivity has been measured through the Civil Service People Survey since 2021.
