Mobile Phones: Fraud

Asked by Alberto CostaConservativeDepartment for Business, Innovation, Science and TradeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21179

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to improve the accountability of mobile network operators where people are victims of fraud.

Answered by Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade

Tackling fraud is a priority for this Government. My Department works closely with Ofcom, the telecoms industry and law enforcement to strengthen operators’ counter-fraud measures. Ofcom has introduced requirements to disrupt the criminal use of telephone networks, while the Telecommunications Fraud Sector Charter sets commitments for industry action. Victims should report incidents to Report Fraud and their mobile provider
