Asked by Mike WoodConservativeTreasuryTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 20996

The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to HMRC's external research programme 2026 to 2027, updated July 2026 and published August 2026, reference 2627CCG01, the Tobacco Tax Gap: Improving Tax Gap Statistics Through Wastewater Analysis, what is the cost of the research; which supplier is undertaking the research; and what is the timetable for its completion.

Answered by Treasury

HMRC is currently undertaking a commercial process to appoint a supplier for this project and agree the project timetable. As the commercial arrangements have not yet been finalised, information on the cost of the research, the supplier, and the timetable for completion is not yet available.
