Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government: Vacancies

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeMinistry of Housing, Communities and Local GovernmentTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21061

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, how many job advertisements for her Department were published on the Civil Service jobs website in 2025 which were (a) available on public website and (b) only available to Civil Services within the passworded website.

Answered by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

MHCLG recruits externally by default, with vacancies advertised through fair and open competition to both Civil Service and external candidates. This helps ensure access to the widest possible and most diverse talent pool. Where there is a clear business need, such as a requirement for specific Civil Service experience that cannot be found externally, vacancies may instead be advertised across government only.

In the 2025/26 financial year, 58% of campaigns were advertised externally and 42% across government.
