Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade: Reorganisation
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what was the cost of (a) restructuring and (b) rebranding the departments of DBT and DSIT to BIST.
Answered by Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade
Following the Machinery of Government changes announced in July 2026, the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) is working to confirm the associated transfer of functions and staff, as well as associated costs. We are not yet in a position to confirm any costs associated with restructuring.
The department's rebrand was designed and developed in-house using existing departmental resources. Implementation of the new branding remains ongoing, and the department does not yet hold a finalised estimate of the overall cost of rebranding. No external agency costs have been incurred in developing the new brand.
By bringing together business, trade, science, innovation and technology, the Government is better positioned to drive good growth, investment and good jobs, strengthening the UK’s economy.
